Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Create a Connection to your server (SSH) or email account (IMAP)
  2. Test the connection to make sure it works
  3. Create a Job using that connection
  4. Choose what to backup (database, files, or email)
  5. Set a schedule and you're done!

New users are guided through this process automatically after signing up.

Incremental backups only store files that have changed since the last backup. This has two major benefits:

  • 90%+ storage savings - You don't store the same unchanged files repeatedly
  • Faster backups - Only changed files are uploaded

We use content-addressed storage, which means identical files are only stored once, even across different backups and different jobs.

  1. Go to History and find the backup you want to restore from
  2. Click Restore Files on an incremental backup
  3. Browse through your backed-up files like a file manager
  4. Click download on individual files, or select multiple files and download as ZIP

For database backups, you download the entire dump file and restore it using your database tools.

We check your connections weekly to make sure they're still working. A connection marked "Unhealthy" means the last health check failed. Common causes:

  • Server IP address changed
  • SSH key was revoked or changed
  • Password was changed
  • Firewall rules changed
  • Server is down

Go to the connection settings, update the credentials if needed, and use "Test Connection" to verify it works.

Every day at your preferred time, we send you an email summarizing:

  • How many backups succeeded and failed
  • Any warnings (unhealthy connections, overdue jobs)
  • Storage usage
  • Upcoming backups in the next 24 hours

You can adjust the time or disable the digest entirely in Settings → Notifications.

We'll warn you when you're approaching your limit (80% and 95%). If you hit the limit:

  • New backups will fail until you free up space
  • Existing backups are NOT deleted

To free up space, you can:

  • Reduce retention periods on your jobs
  • Delete old backups manually
  • Upgrade to a higher plan

SSH keys are more secure than passwords. To set one up:

  1. Generate a key pair if you don't have one: ssh-keygen -t ed25519
  2. Copy your public key to your server: ssh-copy-id user@yourserver.com
  3. When creating a connection in Bakmgr, paste your private key

Your private key is encrypted at rest and never leaves our servers.

Go to Settings → Billing and click "Cancel Subscription". Your account will remain active until the end of your billing period.

After cancellation, your backups will be retained for 30 days before being deleted. You can reactivate anytime during this period.
